ProPump & Controls was awarded a contract with the Omni Hotel in Amelia Island, Florida, to design and build a SCADA system for water management for the three golf courses at the resort. Under increasing pressure from state regulators to reduce the amount of ground water used for irrigation, the system will be designed to maximize the use of effluent water available from the nearby Nassau County Waste Water Treatment Plant. Using radio telemetry, the system will automatically distribute water to the three courses on a prioritized basis. By continuously monitoring the available effluent supply at the Nassau County plant, the system will automatically refill golf course storage lagoons with effluent as long as it is available, instead of supplementing the refill with ground water, as was the practice in the past with the resorts outdated, float-controlled system. Utilizing Trihedral Engineering's VT SCADA HMI software, the system will record and report all effluent, groundwater, and irrigation use at every location on the Omni property. With the system's alarm capabilities, operators will be notified in the event of an equipment malfunction, such as an automatic valve failing to close. Jeff McGuire will head up the project for ProPump & Controls. The project is scheduled for completion in June, 2013.
