ProPump And Controls' Heritage

The roots of ProPump & Controls, Inc. go back to the beginning of the first prefabricated automated pump stations for golf courses in the mid-1970’s. Several manufacturers of irrigation pump stations emerged from that period, among them Pumping Systems, Inc (PSI) of Dallas, Texas, followed later by Commercial Pump of Swanton, Ohio. Both of these companies were focused on custom products and strong customer service. Pumping Systems, Inc developed what was perhaps the first organized network of sales and service representatives in the country, third party contractors wholly dedicated to selling and servicing PSI equipment. Flowtronex International of Tyler, Texas came on the scene in the mid-1980’s, introducing the first successful VFD control systems to the golf course irrigation market, and thereby mounting a challenge to PSI’s market position. In 1993, Flowtronex purchased Pumping Systems, Inc., to form Flowtronex PSI. Overnight, Flowtronex PSI was established as the clear market leader in the business. In late 1996 Flowtronex PSI acquired Commercial Pump to solidify its position in the Midwest. In 1998, Flowtronex PSI again invested heavily, this time to bolster its inherited service infrastructure, with its purchase of the Richard Embry Company, a longtime sales and service representative operating in the Southeast. Renamed the Eastern Service Group, the newly created factory-direct service group became Flowtronex PSI’s flagship service organization, setting standards for service providers across the country.
Times and markets change, and Flowtronex PSI was eventually acquired by a major corporation more focused on manufacturing standardized products to meet demands of multiple markets, rather than devoting extensive resources to manufacturing custom products for specialized applications. Consequently the company began divesting its service assets to interested buyers, and reducing its customer service capabilities.
ProPump & Controls, now under the private ownership, consists of many of the former Eastern Service Group employees in both the Midwestern and Southeastern United States.
